Zach Brewer Pulls Away for the Win at Hickory Motor Speedway in Southern Modified Tour Action.

21 Modifieds signed in for the “American Freedom 125” presented by KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink. It was the fourth event of the season for the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series or the new Southern Modified Race Tour.

By Ben Lookabill

Tim Brown took the pole at 15.545 with Zach Brewer on the outside of the front row. The field rolled to the green flag and Tim Brown took the lead over Brewer off turn two. A caution for a spin by Gary Young slowed the field. Young pulled away from the scene of the spin and joined the rear of the field. On the restart Brewer took the lead over Jeremy Mayfield and proceeded to pull away from the field. On Lap 40 Bobby Sheffield went to the lead but Mayfield fought back and took the top spot.

During the mandatory caution at Lap 55 the leaders made their required pit stop. On the restart Sheffield pulled away and led the next 25 laps over Josh Nichols. On Lap 84 Zach Brewer moved to the lead just ahead of Mayfield. On the last restart at lap 110 Brewer pulled away from Tim Brown. Burt Myers charged to second on the high side and started to run down Brewer with 10 Laps to go. However, Brewer pulled away to become the fourth different winner this season by 1.5 seconds over Burt Myers with Bobby Sheffield in third. Jimmy Wallace was the highest finishing Modified Light driver.

The Mini Stock Madness Series took the track for 35 Laps. Steven Sanders started fifth and charged thru the field. After some hard racing with AJ Sanders and then Jason Tutterow, Sanders moved to the point and took the win. Jason Tutterow came home second and AJ Sanders hung on for third.

The East Coast Flat Head Ford started off the racing card with 20 Laps. Wayne Lawson took the lead and ran away for the Modified win. Jerry Tuttle took the win in the Sportsman Division.
