*October 29 Q:* In the first few years that the Cup Series raced at Texas Motor Speedway, Jeff Gordon simply had no luck on the 1.5-mile quad-oval. The 1999 Primestar 500 was no different. What happened to put Gordon out of the race early on?

*October 29 A:* _On Lap 69, Gordon appeared to blow a right-front tire exiting Turn 4. As a result, Gordon went hard into the outside wall, then spun into the quad-oval grass. Gordon appeared to be in some pain after the hit and gingerly exited his DuPont Chevrolet. However, the car was done for the day and Gordon was credited with a 43rd-place finish. *October 30 Q:* As you all know, the Sprint Cup Series (along with the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series) is at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. However, before the track opened, there was a conflict regarding this name. Had SMI not come to terms, what would the track have been named instead?

*October 30 A:* _Texas Motor Speedway would have taken the name of Texas International Raceway due to conflict with an existing track called Texas Motor Speedway in Alvin, Texas (best known as the hometown of Nolan Ryan). SMI had already printed up merchandise featuring the Texas International Raceway name prior to the agreement being reached._

*October 31 Q:* The 1998 Coca-Cola 300 at Texas Motor Speedway is best known as the race in which Dale Earnhardt, Jr. picked up his first Busch Grand National victory at the expense of Joe Nemechek. However, as seemed to be the norm at Texas the first few years, the early part of the event was marked by wrecks. First Joe Bessey and Doug Reid wrecked on the frontstretch. Shortly afterwards, Wayne Grubb got involved in his own wreck. What happened?

*October 31 A:* _Grubb was running very well with his Link-Belt Chevrolet, but seemed to get in Jimmy Spencer’s way. Spencer gave Grubb a slight tap exiting Turn 2, which spun Grubb’s No. 83 out. After a full 360, Grubb broadsided the outside wall with the right side of his car. This broke the steering, resulting in the car turning back into the wall. *November 1 Q:* Greg Ray had a very fast Dallara at Texas Motor Speedway during the 1998 True Value 500. With a couple of laps to go, it was clear that Ray was faster than leader Billy Boat. However, he was unable to take the advantage away. Why is this so?

*November 1 A:* _Coming to the white flag, Ray appeared to have a good run on Boat in the quad-oval. However, Ray dove too low in an attempt to pass Boat and got in the grass. Although Ray did not lose control of his No. 97, he lost more than enough momentum for Boat to win easily.
