Pace Laps: Kahne In, Harvick Cruises, IndyCar Adieu, and More

Cup: Sweet Relief for Kahne          By racing for the Cup juggernaut Hendrick Motorsports, there are high expectations for Kasey Kahne.  That his brethren at the organization have all earned three wins apiece makes his season look all the worse.  In fact, with only two top-5 finishes in 2014, Kahne was looking like a second-tier driver and one who had to be glancing over his shoulder at the upstart Nationwide and de facto Hendrick development driver, Chase Elliott. ... Nationwide Breakdown: Great Clips 300 at Atlanta

JR Motorsports was dominant on Saturday evening at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick piloted the No. 5 Chevrolet to Victory Lane as he set the pace throughout the 300-mile event. Making his 11th NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the year, the 38-year-old won his third race of the season for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s organization. Happiness Is… Denny Hamlin, the Schedule & Tony Stewart’s Return

Happiness Is… Denny Hamlin, the Schedule & Tony Stewart’s Return

The schedule came out this past week and it gave everyone who follows NASCAR something to gripe about.  In truth, all the criticisms are valid because NASCAR, due to the way the business is run, is unable to make serious changes that would make people feel happy, though that can be a moving target. The one big positive is that the Darlington race, has once again moved back to its fabled spot on the calendar: Labor Day weekend.  In discussing ... Read More »

This past weekend, the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series were all in action at Bristol Motor Speedway, but don’t be looking for the latter here. I will be covering the Camping World Truck Series UNOH 200 presented by Zloop later this week in the Critic’s Annex, along with the ARCA race from Wisconsin – because last weekend, it made much more sense to focus on ESPN’s coverage of the Cup and Nationwide broadcasts on Saturday and Friday ... Voices from the Cheap Seats: At Bristol, The More Things Change…

Well, the weekend has come and gone and all that is left is memories – albeit some a bit foggy – of a handful of soldiers who made it home alive along with the task of cleaning out (and repairing) the camper. I did not attend the NASCAR races as a member of the media this weekend. No, as I prefer to do at Bristol, I was a fan. Free to mingle, consume without worry, support my driver proudly and ... Thinkin’ Out Loud: Irwin Tools Night Race

Key Moment - With 67 laps to go the caution flag flew for what ended up being the final time on Saturday night. Matt Kenseth stayed on the track with four other cars while Joey Logano headed to pit lane and bolted on four fresh bolognas. When the race restarted, Logano took the green in sixth position and quickly sliced through the cars in front of him. He worked his way past Kenseth on lap 456 and never lost the lead again. In a Nutshell ... Read More »
