Nuts for Nationwide: Regan Smith’s 2015 Could Be His Most Important Year Yet

Silly season might not have been silly enough for Regan Smith. But that’s OK – for now. Smith, 31, just signed a one-year extension with JR Motorsports to drive the No. 7 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series again in 2015. Next year will mark his third consecutive season with the organization after getting the boot with Furniture Row Racing in the Sprint Cup Series when it chose 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch to replace him. Nationwide Breakdown: Kansas Lottery 300

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Or not. While seeing Kyle Busch win a NASCAR Nationwide Series race isn’t necessarily unusual, Busch winning at Kansas is more of a rarity. Though Busch does have a Nationwide Series victory at the track from back in 2007, a variety of bad luck and poor performance in both NNS and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition has turned Busch’s relationship with Kansas Speedway into a rather contentious one. While Busch ... Read More »

Pace Laps: Kahne In, Harvick Cruises, IndyCar Adieu, and More

Cup: Sweet Relief for Kahne          By racing for the Cup juggernaut Hendrick Motorsports, there are high expectations for Kasey Kahne.  That his brethren at the organization have all earned three wins apiece makes his season look all the worse.  In fact, with only two top-5 finishes in 2014, Kahne was looking like a second-tier driver and one who had to be glancing over his shoulder at the upstart Nationwide and de facto Hendrick development driver, Chase Elliott. ... Making his 11th NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the year, the 38-year-old won his third race of the season for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s organization. Harvick and his teammate Chase Elliott led every one of the 195 laps at Atlanta in a race that saw just two caution flags. After he ... Read More »

Chase Elliott May Run Selected Sprint Cup Races in 2015

Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick was a guest on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Tradin’ Paint with Jim Noble and Chocolate Myers on Wednesday morning. While there, the question of whether or not current Nationwide Series points leader Chase Elliott will run Sprint Cup races in the near future was posed. Hendrick’s response to the query was essentially “not yet, but it’s likely.” “No, we haven’t arrived at a decision for sure, but I think you’ll probably see him run a few ... Read More »

Nuts for Nationwide: In 2014, It’s JR Motorsports or Nothing

Nuts for Nationwide: In 2014, It’s JR Motorsports or Nothing

The JR Motorsport juggernaut rolls on in 2014, with its latest stop having been the Daytona International Speedway. The team left with another win, making it No. 6 on the season, as well as a 1-2 finish with Kasey Kahne and Regan Smith, and regained the driver point lead with Smith. The further the season goes on and the more the company continues to distance itself from its Nationwide Series competition, it doesn’t leave a whole lot to talk about ... Read More »
