Thinkin’ Out Loud – Brickyard 400

Thinkin’ Out Loud – Brickyard 400

Key Moment – The Brickyard 400 saw multiple fuel strategies jumble the field early in the race. A long green flag run from lap 25 through lap 69 had some teams pit and return to the track, while others were not quite in the window they were hoping for. When the yellow flag flew for Danica Patrick’s car stopping in turn one after having a failure in the rear of the car leaving her pit stall, the caution period caught ... Read More »

Nuts for Nationwide: Nationwide Series at the Brickyard Just Doesn’t Fit

Nuts for Nationwide: Nationwide Series at the Brickyard Just Doesn’t Fit

The Nationwide Series winner at Daytona International Speedway the day before the Daytona 500 doesn’t get a Harley J. Earl trophy. Thinkin’ Out Loud: Off Week – RTA, The Chase and Tires Among First Half Topics

Key Moment – The dramatic changes to the Chase format announced in Charlotte during the 2014 Media Tour continue to be the key moment of the season. The “win and you’re in” philosophy is permeating the garage, and there have been obvious strategic decisions, during the season, altered by the fact that a team already has a win and is virtually locked into the Chase. Outside of the frenetic racing on restarts, it doesn’t seem to have greatly changed the ... Read More »

Tony Stewart Wrecks During Indianapolis Tire Test

In a tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Tony Stewart crashed as a result of what was believed to be a cut tire. Stewart was uninjured in the crash, according to a local CBS affiliate, even though he did speak with medical personnel on site. The test itself was closed to the media.   Stewart’s crash occurred during a two-day tire test where he was one of six drivers participating. Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, and ... Read More »
