JJ Yeley in For Ryan Truex at Michigan

Ryan Truex suffered a hard crash at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday morning during Sprint Cup practice. The impact with the outside wall in turn 2 was enough to lift the rear end off of the track.

After running nearly head-on into the wall, Truex climbed from his car but was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation after complaining of a headache and shoulder pain.

During the Camping World Truck Series race from Michigan, Motorsport.com’s Lee Spencer reported that JJ Yeley will pilot Truex’s No. 83 Toyota Sunday afternoon.

“The tests look good, but they’re sending him back to North Carolina for further evaluation,” team owner Ron Devine told Spencer by phone. “We need to make sure Ryan is OK. We appreciate JJ Yeley stepping in for Ryan while he recovers. It was a hard hit.”

The team made the news official Saturday afternoon when they posted a release on their website, stating that Truex was diagnosed with a concussion. The driver of the No. 83 Toyota underwent CT scans on his head, neck, chest and abdomen, and all tests came back negative.
