UARA-STARS and Jeff’s Auto Sales team up together for the STARS’ second visit to Newport Speedway on July 14th for another fast paced, fender bending, paint swapping, give it all you got kind of night at the Tennessee bullring.

Jeff’s Auto Sales has been a huge supporter of the UARA-STARS this year. Not only have they come on board
as a sponsor of the pace car, Jeff’s Auto Sales has also been very helpful by being a presenting sponsor for both of the 2012 Newport races at the Tennessee oval asphalt track.

“The UARA is always thankful for our series and race sponsors. Racing is a sponsor driven sport and the continued support of these great sponsors is instrumental in bringing great races to the local tracks” said Kerry Bodenhamer, UARA President.

Heading into the Jeff’s Auto Sales 150, Travis Swaim is the current points leader with rookie and recent series winner Dillon Bassett in a close second a mere 14 points behind. Swaim is still looking to claim his first season victory, but has definitely played his cards right to be at the top of the points board. Swaim has won three poles, including setting a new STARS record at Rockingham. Out of the first seven races, Swaim has finished fifth or better in four of those races and finished ninth during the last visit to Newport Speedway.

Bassett’s second place position has been rightfully earned by his win at Hickory a few weeks ago. Bassett has had three top-10’s and two top-fives. Following these two drivers is Scott Turlington in third. So far this season, Turlington won the pole and the race at Anderson Motor Speedway. He always seems to find himself at the front of the field as he led 255 laps of the first seven races.

Tim George Jr. has played it low key during the first portion of the season. His consistent place finishes has him ranked fourth in the championship points. His successful runs include a top-five at Rockingham and a top-ten at Kingsport. George will be taking a few weeks off from the UARA to concentrate on his Nationwide Truck racing but will be back in full force soon. We wish George much success while he is truck racing.

First time, full-time drivers, also known as the Rookie Freshmen, round out the top ten. Devin Jones had a solid run at Anderson Speedway. He started on the outside pole, led some laps, and then had a runner-up finish. He also had two other top-ten finishes, at Kingsport and Dillon. Ben Rhodes has already claimed his first UARA career pole and is currently looking for his first win. Rhodes was runner-up to Bassett at Hickory a few weeks ago and even led fifty laps right down to the wire in what appeared would be his first win. Bassett was strong and he put the move on Rhodes on that final and all important lap to claim the victory.. In Rhodes’ first Rookie UARA race, he finished in the top five and has had two top-10s since then.

Brandon Jones is sneaking onto the top of the charts. During the last visit to Newport he finished fourth and has had many top starting positions. Jake Morris had quite the exciting ride during the last event at Hickory, as his right side tires drove over Sean Rayhall, who currently sits tenth in points. Morris finished fifth at Rockingham and has had four top-10 finishes. Tyler Laing won the Holley Performer Award at Rockingham for gaining the most positions during the race. Along with the award, he received a top-10 finish. Rayhall won the Rookie of the Race Award at Kingsport for this first top-five.

UARA-STARS only have a little over a week to get their cars and teams ready for the Jeff’s Auto Sales 150 at Newport Speedway in Newport Tennessee.
