Making a rare appearance for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Alex Bowman is making the most of his opportunity, winning final practice in the No. 5 Chevrolet (180.856 mph) Friday evening (Oct. 9). Trevor Bayne Wins First Nationwide Series Practice

Kyle Busch paced a majority of the opening practice session for the Nationwide Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, late in the one-hour session, Trevor Bayne put his No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford atop the practice chart with a speed of 180.856 mph (29.858 sec.). Bayne ran the fourth most laps (26) of the session. Including a fast single lap, Bayne also had the best 10-lap average amongst the cars that ran 10 or more consecutive laps (175.165 mph). ... On Wednesday, Roush Fenway Racing announced that they have reached a multi-year contract extension with Lilly Diabetes and the American Diabetes Association.  As a result of the agreement, driver Ryan Reed will continue to drive the No. 16 Ford Mustang in the Nationwide Series (soon to be XFINITY Series) full-time.  In addition, the Drive to Stop Diabetes program that Reed is spearheading will continue as well. On Wednesday, Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) announced that Sam Hornish, Jr. will drive the No. 9 Ford Fusion full-time in the Sprint Cup Series in 2015.  Hornish will be replacing Marcos Ambrose, who is returning to Australia to race in the International V8 Supercar Championship in a joint venture between Dick Johnson Racing and Team Penske.
