Kevin Harvick fastest in first Sprint Cup practice

The Sprint Cup cars took to the track at 11:30 for their first of two practice sessions Kevin Harvick was the fastest among the 47 cars to post times. Harvick turned a lap of 27.769 seconds for a speed of 177.090 mph. Harvick was the only driver to log a speed over 171 mph. Kurt Busch fastest in Nationwide Practice

Kurt Busch turned the fastest lap among the Nationwide drivers at Darlington Friday with a lap of 28.634 seconds for a speed of 171.740 mph. Busch’s time bested Austin Dillon who was second fastest during the practice with a 28.690 second lap at a speed of 171.405 mph. Mark Martin proved that adage Friday when he was the last car on the track and broke Carl Edwards heart by snatching the pole from Edward’s grasp on the last lap of the qualifying session. Mark Martin paced the first Sprint Cup practice of the day, and secured the final qualifying run for this evening, with a lap of 21.309 seconds and a speed of 126.707 mph. Martin was ahead of his former Roush Fenway teammate, Greg Biffle, who ran a 21.397 second lap for a speed of 126.186 mph. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clocked the fastest time during the Nationwide Series Practice Friday morning with a 21.953 second lap for a speed of 122.990 mph. Stenhouse barely edged out Kevin Harvick for the best time as Harvick turned in a 21.955 second lap at a speed of 122.979. Kasey Kahne wins Truck Series return to Rockingham Speedway

After eight years and 53 days, NASCAR National Touring Series racing returned to Rockingham Speedway with the Camping World Truck Series. Kasey Kahne made the trip from Texas back to North Carolina to compete in the race and, even though he had to start at the rear, managed to work his way through the pack and led the final 46 laps of the event to score the win. 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee Nomination List Released

The list of 25 nominees eligible for inclusion in the 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class has been released. The 20 nominees who were not voted into the Hall for 2012 are still on the list. They are joined by Ray Fox, Anne France, Ralph Seagraves, Wendell Scott and Rusty Wallace. May 23rd the five individuals voted into the Hall of Fame will be revealed. ASA Announces Pro Truck Series

The ASA has established a licensing agreement with the former Intermountain Pro Truck Series to become the ASA Pro Truck Series. The tour will join the other ASA Truck tours; The ASA Truck Series, which competes in the Southwest and the ASA Midwest Truck Tour. The series will initially compete at three race tracks in Idaho and Utah. Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, ID will host the season opening race. Middlebrook Overturns Hendrick Penalties; Fine Stands

Tuesday’s appeal was the last hope for Hendrick Motorsports’ No 48 team, and as it turns, out their best hope, as most of the penalties levied at Daytona were reversed by Chief Appellate Officer John Middlebrook. All that remains of NASCAR’s original penalty is a $100,000 monetary fine for crew chief Chad Knaus. In addition, Knaus and car chief Ron Malec will remain on probation until May 9.
