Couch Potato Tuesday: Narrow Focus on Chase Hopefuls Hurts ESPN

Couch Potato Tuesday: Narrow Focus on Chase Hopefuls Hurts ESPN

The Chase was the name of the game last weekend, which is probably how things should be. After all, regardless of one’s opinion of NASCAR’s playoffs, it’s certainly the focal point of the next 10 races, meaning the lead-in is just as important when it comes to determining who gets to play and who’s left out in the cold. But while that emphasis shone through on much of ESPN’s Sprint Cup Series coverage this weekend, one story in particular has ... Read More »

Pace Laps: Congenial Richmond, KyBu Nationwide, other stuff

Couch Potato Tuesday: Tony Stewart Overshadows Atlanta Telecasts

Couch Potato Tuesday: Tony Stewart Overshadows Atlanta Telecasts

Tony Stewart: one of the year’s biggest stories across NASCAR, not just his Sprint Cup home base. Smoke’s story has permeated not just stock car racing coverage, dominating chatter with the usual suspects but mainstream media as a whole. It’s a phenomenon that shows no signs of stopping, even though in some areas it should… especially when NASCAR folk have full control. Example? A race, within a prevalent NASCAR series where Stewart is clearly not a part of both. Yet ... Read More »
