Nuts for Nationwide: Chase Elliott Won’t Miss a Beat with New Crew Chief

Nuts for Nationwide: Chase Elliott Won’t Miss a Beat with New Crew Chief

Regardless of change, time is on the side of Chase Elliott. The 18-year-old Nationwide Series points leader will lose his crew chief, Greg Ives, following the 2014 season. Ives is set to take the reins for Sprint Cup Series driver – and Elliott’s boss – Dale Earnhardt, Jr., beginning in the 2015 season. The move means that while the void for Earnhardt has been filled, it creates one for the youngster. In just his first full-time season, Elliott leads the points ... Read More »

Pace Laps: Pocono Oddity, Iowa Adventures, Ohio Excellence, and More

Cup: Strange Results from Pocono It’s not a surprise that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. won at Pocono.  He raced with the leaders all race long and his crew chief, Steve Letarte, made a brilliant strategy call that put him in the best position to win. But what about the rest of the field? Kyle Busch completed just 23 laps before his engine lost its song and he parked his car. And in Jimmie Johnson‘s case, is Chad Knaus testing out some ... Nationwide Breakdown: U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa

From Iowa to Pocono, Brad Keselowski never lacked in speed. The Team Penske driver flew in from the Sprint Cup weekend at the Pennsylvania triangle and then flew to victory lane in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday night in the U.S. Cellular 250. Keselowski led the most laps (146 of 250) and overtook Michael McDowell with two laps to go to grab his third win of the season. McDowell had taken two tires on his final pit stop to ... Read More »

Nuts for Nationwide: Ty Dillon Rises Again

Nuts for Nationwide: Ty Dillon Rises Again

From Volusia to Atlanta to Indianapolis, Ty Dillon seemingly has already learned to seize big game moments. “Prime Time Ty” has quickly become familiar with having to dig deep, find that killer instinct and do what might be deemed the impossible in beating the older more experienced crowd. Big game moments often create the heroes and the zeros. When a title is on the line or victory is within grasp, always be on the lookout for that someone who will ... Read More »

Nuts for Nationwide: Nationwide Series at the Brickyard Just Doesn’t Fit

Nuts for Nationwide: Nationwide Series at the Brickyard Just Doesn’t Fit

The Nationwide Series winner at Daytona International Speedway the day before the Daytona 500 doesn’t get a Harley J. Earl trophy. The victor at Darlington Raceway the day before the Southern 500 isn’t rewarded with his name and face emblazoned on the Johnny Mantz trophy. So why the Nationwide Series winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is allowed to kiss the bricks (thankfully the trophy is different), just like the following day’s Brickyard 400 winners, is beyond me. There has always ... Read More »

Nationwide Breakdown: EnjoyIllinois.com 300

Nationwide Breakdown: EnjoyIllinois.com 300

Chase Elliott had chances at winning the last few weeks go out the window when he ran out of fuel on more than one occasion. Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway in the EnjoyIllinois.com 300, however, the No. 9 team played the pit road strategy perfectly to put themselves out front when it mattered the most. Elliott led a race-high 85 of 200 laps to earn his third win of the 2014 season and made it seven for JR Motorsports. On ... Read More »

Nuts for Nationwide: Erik Jones to Make Series Debut

Nuts for Nationwide: Erik Jones to Make Series Debut

Erik Jones will make his Nationwide Series debut this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway with Joe Gibbs Racing, and I for one am hoping to see him obliterate the field. I’m talking lead every practice session, qualify on the pole and then go wire-to-wire. After all, he will be driving (practically) a Cup-lite car capable of the feat and Jones is no slouch behind the wheel. So why not go crazy this weekend and make an entrance worth talking about? This ... Read More »
