National Speed Sport News is reporting a group of nine multi-car teams participating in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) announced today they have formed a collaborative business association called the Race Team Alliance (RTA). Saturday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway dawned warm and sunny.  Unfortunately, the thunderstorms first showed up at the track around 1:30 in the afternoon.  Lightning struck close to the track, forcing many of the activities for fans in the Midway to shut down prematurely. Tony Stewart Wrecks During Indianapolis Tire Test

In a tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Tony Stewart crashed as a result of what was believed to be a cut tire. Stewart was uninjured in the crash, according to a local CBS affiliate, even though he did speak with medical personnel on site. For the next three seasons, Panasonic will sponsor the No. 24 team driven by Jeff Gordon in at least two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. For 2014, those two races will be this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway and the August 31st event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Goodyear and NASCAR continue testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway today for the upcoming Brickyard 400 on July 27th. Tire testing began on Monday and several veteran Sprint Cup Series drivers and teams were a part of it. Comcast And NASCAR In Talks For NNS Title Sponsorship Deal

As first reported by Tripp Mickle of the Sports Business Journal, NASCAR is in “advanced talks” with Comcast Xfinity for title sponsorship of what currently is the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The Nationwide Insurance title sponsorship ends after this season, as the brand has chosen to sponsor Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s No. 88 Sprint Cup car instead, as well as become an associate-level backer of the sport.
