Edwards, Busch Lead Second Michigan Cup Practice for Joe Gibbs Racing

Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch led the way as teams attempted to dial their race setups in during Saturday’s second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice at Michigan International Raceway.

Edwards’ 197.770 mph circuit proved the fastest on the session, with Busch following in second with a 197.737 mph lap. Team Penske and its affiliates at Wood Brothers Racing completed the top five with Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and Brad Keselowski slotting third, fourth and fifth.

Martin Truex, Jr., Kyle Larson, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Ryan Newman rounded out the top 10.

The session proved difficult for the field, as they tried to come to grips with the lower downforce package being tested by NASCAR this weekend. Speeds on the straights and in the turns differed by over 30 mph as drivers were forced onto the brakes.

The Cup Series will return for final practice for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at 12 p.m. ET.
