Sprint Cup Qualifying Rained Out, Kevin Harvick on Pole

Due to inclement weather throughout Friday at Richmond International Raceway, qualifying for the Sprint Cup Series has been cancelled, putting Kevin Harvick on pole for Sunday. Leading the way in the one and only Friday practice session, Harvick will in return led the field to green per the rulebook for the Toyota Owners 400.

“We had decided to come into the weekend and approach qualifying a little bit different,” Harvick said, “just with the way that the tracks have been and the timing of our practices. We decided to go and take advantage of being the first car on the race track, which is a pretty big advantage here.”

Joey Logano will line up second as he followed Harvick in the opening practice session.

“It’s a good start for us for sure,” Logano said. “I feel like my team did a great job on understanding the weather today before we hit the race track.”

Completing the top 10 starting spots will be Jimmie Johnson in third followed by Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch and AJ Allmendinger.

With 41 entries, Cole Whitt is the driver who will not qualify for Sunday. Ryan Ellis will make his 2016 debut in BK Racing’s No. 93 entry.

Both XFINITY Series practices along with Saturday’s qualifying session has also been cancelled, lining the XFINITY heat races by rulebook.
