Brad Keselowski Fastest in 1st 2015 Hollywood Casino 400 Practice Session at Kansas

As the series heads into a vital race this weekend in Kansas Speedway, all the Chase drivers (except last week’s winner Joey Logano) are focused on having the best setup possible in the second race in the Contender Round. More importantly, it’s the last race in this round before Talladega Superspeedway.

In the first practice session, Brad Keselowski asserted himself as a challenger for the lead, putting down the fastest lap in the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session of the day at a speed of 194.349 mph. Non-Chaser Austin Dillon was second fastest followed by Matt Kenseth — who desperately needs a good run this weekend to remain in Chase contention — was in third. Ryan Newman and Xfinity Series regular Brian Scott rounded out the top five.

Martin Truex Jr. was sixth, followed by Jimmie Johnson in seventh. Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch rounded out the top 10.

There was one caution during the first practice session for debris on the frontstretch.

NSCS qualifying will run later today around 6:15 p.m. ET. Teams will have two additional practice sessions on Saturday.

Chase drivers outside of the top 10 include Dale Earnhardt Jr. (11th), Jeff Gordon (13th), Denny Hamlin (14th), Joey Logano (18th) and Kevin Harvick (27th).
