Rainbow Warrior: Classic Jeff Gordon Paint Scheme Returns at Bristol

Fans spoke, and Axalta listened.

Jeff Gordon will pilot a special rainbow paint scheme in the Aug. 22 Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Axalta and Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday in New York City.

Gordon, a four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, unveiled his rainbow scheme on Axalta’s Twitter account before driving it down West 57th Street in Manhattan as part of an appearance on CBS This Morning.

Gordon drove the rainbow Chevrolet from his first start in 1992 through 2000, earning numerous accomplishments along that way, including a Rookie of the Year title, a victory in the Sprint All-Star Race, three Sprint Cup Series championships, 52 wins, 129 top fives and 166 top 10s.

Fans will be able purchase commemorative hats, t-shirts, hoodies, a replica helmet and die-casts honoring the throwback ride.

Running his final full-time season in NSCS, Gordon sits 11th in the standings and is currently in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup based on points. The Vallejo, California driver continues to seek his first win of the season guarantee his place in NASCAR’s playoffs.
